Abstract
The delicate tango between preoperative and postoperative care takes centre stage when it
comes to ensuring patient safety. This talk lays out a patient-focused story and emphasises howcrucial these overlapping stages are. In order to provide patients with informed consent, the preoperative process starts with a comprehensive patient assessment, health optimisation, and open communication. Following surgery, our attention turns to the patient’s prompt recovery, with a focus on prompt mobilisation, careful wound care, and close observation to avoid complications. Ensuring sustained patient well-being becomes contingent upon postoperative follow-up. Surgical outcome evaluation is based on a patient safety compass that objectively measures success through satisfaction indicators and cooperative modifications. The story is interspersed with case studies that show how this patient-centric paradigm guarantees not only the success of the surgery but also, and more importantly, the long-term safety and well-being of the patients we are caring for.
